About NEEV

The primary purpose of the project is to give technical assistance to the seven Northeast states in order to expedite the adoption of electric vehicles in the transportation fleet, in order to meet the national goal of 30% EV sales by 2030.

Except for Sikkim and Nagaland, all the North-Eastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura have declared their EV policies. However, many states’ EV policies lack concrete objectives, incentives, and action plans for growing EV use. As a result, EV adoption is extremely low in these states (just 86,000 EVs are registered in the Northeast area, accounting for less than 1% of total car registrations). These states, owing to their distinct topography and biodiversity, require a comprehensive and sustainable transport growth plan.

As a project under IIEC-India, one of the fundamental cornerstones of this sustainable growth would be the electrification of the transportation industry. As a result of the national pledges and push for EVs, this is an excellent opportunity to encourage EV adoption through policy measures and an incentive system for consumers in NE states. IIEC intends to give technical help and capacity support to various nodal departments for them to develop relevant policies and guidelines to promote EV adoption in their respective states.
